Celest ("we", "our", "the Launcher") is committed to your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data Celest accesses, how it is used, and who it may be shared with. We have designed Celest with a minimal-data philosophy: if we don't need it, we don't collect it.
Celest is an offline-capable desktop application. Most of its functionality operates entirely on your local machine without any network communication to Celest-operated servers.
Celest does not:
Celest stores the following data on your device only, in its application data directory:
| Data | Purpose | Shared? |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher preferences & settings | Persist your configuration between sessions | No |
| Game profiles (name, version, mods) | Store and launch your configured game instances | No, unless you export and share a profile yourself |
| Minecraft session tokens | Keep you logged in without re-authenticating each launch | No, tokens are never sent to Celest |
| Installed mod metadata | Manage mod updates and display installed mod info | No |
| Skin & cape cache | Display your current skin and cape preview in the launcher | No |
| Download cache | Avoid re-downloading files you already have | No |
All local data can be deleted by uninstalling Celest and removing its application data directory.
Celest may make the following outbound network requests, only when you initiate the relevant action:
When you log in with a Microsoft account, Celest communicates with Microsoft's authentication servers (login.microsoftonline.com and api.minecraftservices.com) to obtain a valid session token. This is the standard OAuth 2.0 flow used by the official Minecraft launcher. Celest does not store your Microsoft credentials, only the resulting session token, which is stored locally.
When you browse or search for mods, Celest queries the Modrinth API (api.modrinth.com). Requests include your search query and filter parameters. Modrinth's privacy policy applies to these requests. Celest does not send personally identifying information to Modrinth.
When you browse CurseForge content, Celest queries the CurseForge API. CurseForge's privacy policy applies to these requests. Celest does not send personally identifying information to CurseForge.
During game installation, Celest downloads game assets, libraries, and version manifests from Mojang's CDN (launchermeta.mojang.com, resources.download.minecraft.net). These are standard Minecraft launcher requests.
The Cross-Client Viewer feature may query public player skin and cape data from Minecraft session servers to display cosmetics for nearby players. Only publicly accessible data is retrieved.
Celest's profile sharing feature allows you to export your mod profile (list of mods, versions, and settings) as a shareable file. This file contains only your mod configuration, no personal information, credentials, or account data. You choose who to share it with. Celest does not upload profile data to any server.
Community-developed addons installed through the Celest Addon API run within the Celest process and may make their own network requests. Celest is not responsible for the data practices of third-party addons. Review addon source code or documentation before installing addons from untrusted sources.
Celest is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Celest, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
Session tokens are stored locally in your OS application data directory and are only accessible to your user account. We do not transmit these tokens over the network to Celest. Despite this, no system is perfectly secure, keep your device and operating system up to date to reduce risk.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of Celest after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
Significant changes that affect how personal data is handled will be announced in our Discord server and release notes.
